FAQs

How to maintain your dog's coat?
For a healthy coat and to achieve your desired grooming length, regular maintenance between appointments is essential. At Canine Design Inc., we must charge extra for dealing with fleas, ticks, and matting since tangled fur requires additional time and can cause discomfort for your furry friend. We recommend brushing before bath time to prevent matting—once mats get wet, shaving might be the only solution available. What are your business hours?
We're closed Sundays and Mondays for rest. Our doors are open Tuesday through Friday from 8 AM to 6 PM, and Saturdays from 8 AM to 5 PM. Please remember that we operate strictly by appointment only to ensure each pet receives our full attention. How do I schedule an appointment?
We're excited to meet your furry companion! Simply give us a call to book your appointment, or if you prefer, submit our online form and our team will promptly contact you to arrange a convenient time. How often should my dog be groomed?
Grooming frequency depends on your dog’s breed, coat type, and lifestyle. Most dogs benefit from professional grooming every 4–8 weeks. Regular visits help maintain skin health, prevent painful matting, and keep your pup comfortable and looking their best.Do you groom puppies?
Yes! Puppy grooming is a wonderful way to introduce your new companion to the grooming experience. We recommend starting as early as 12–16 weeks old, with gentle, positive sessions focused on bath time, light trimming, and getting comfortable with the process. What should I do before bringing my dog in for grooming?
A light brushing at home is always helpful, especially for long- or curly-coated dogs. Please allow your dog a potty break before arrival, and let us know about any health concerns, sensitivities, or behavior notes so we can provide the safest and most comfortable experience. What happens if my dog has mats?
Matting can be uncomfortable—and even painful—for dogs. In severe cases, shaving may be the most humane option. Our priority is always your dog’s well-being, and we’ll discuss coat condition and options with you before proceeding. Can grooming help with shedding?
Absolutely. Regular brushing, bathing, and de-shedding treatments significantly reduce loose fur and help maintain a healthier coat. Professional grooming also distributes natural oils, which promotes shine and skin health.Do you offer nail trimming services?
Yes, nail trimming is included in most grooming packages and is also available as a standalone service. Keeping your dog’s nails properly trimmed supports healthy posture, prevents joint strain, and reduces the risk of painful breaks. What type of products do you use?
We use high-quality, dog-safe shampoos and conditioners formulated for sensitive skin and coat health. If your dog has allergies or requires a special product, just let us know—we’re happy to accommodate when possible. Will my dog be kenneled during their visit?
Your dog’s comfort matters to us. While brief kennel time may be necessary during drying or waiting periods, we strive to keep visits efficient and stress-free. Our appointment-only schedule allows us to give each pet personalized attention. Can you groom senior dogs?
Yes, we welcome senior pets! Older dogs often benefit from regular grooming to improve comfort, circulation, and mobility. We take extra care with senior dogs, allowing additional time and using gentle handling techniques. What if my dog is nervous or anxious?
You’re not alone—many dogs feel unsure at first. Our experienced team uses calm, patient, and compassionate handling to help anxious dogs feel secure. Over time, regular grooming can actually build confidence and familiarity.Does grooming help with skin issues?
Routine grooming can help identify and manage early signs of skin issues such as dryness, irritation, hot spots, or parasites. While grooming doesn’t replace veterinary care, it plays an important role in maintaining overall skin and coat health. Why is regular grooming important for my dog’s overall health?
Grooming is more than just appearance—it supports skin health, improves hygiene, prevents infections, and allows early detection of lumps, bumps, or changes in your dog’s body. It’s an investment in your dog’s comfort, health, and happiness.
